Well I think that the whole "Day 20 of Whatever" is over....I got to day 20 and in the name of all that is decent I cannot continue to keep count. I'm out of fingers and toes and that only leaves me one way to get to 21 and ...well you get the point.
I have stalled at 23 lbs lost. I have had a minor setback with my blood pressure that has kept me from being able to exercise with out getting real light headed. I have kept my caloric intake pretty good at around 1500 and with very few exceptions.....well lets say only a few exceptions.
I am going to start a new dosage of a medication and hope that it will help me be able to get out and start exercising again. I cant wait to start loosing again.
Once again thanks for the support.

Day 20 of 365
I haven't written in a few days mostly due to the fact that I have been super frustrated. I have eaten less than 1500 a day for nearly a week and have not lost a thing. The worse part of that is I haven't really worked out hard in a week. I think that I need to buckle down on the exercise thing and get back to a pound of loss every day or two!
Thanks for all the support, it helps a ton!

Day 15 0f 365....A bit confused?
I am seriously confused about my weight. For the first 10 days or so fat seemed to be melting off like crazy and this week I have been ultra conservative on my calories and cant seem to make any real headway past 288-289 lbs. If any of you out there have any ideas, I would love to hear them. My best explanation starts with either pregnancy or aliens that force feed me Twinkies at night and then wipe my memory, and my mouth clean...both of which seem slightly unlikely.
On a good note I did the hated bleachers on Monday and had not one sore muscle this week. I guess something is working!

Day 14 of 365 2 Weeks and Going Strong
Well I have been at this for two whole weeks now and things are going well. I have lost 19 lbs and think that this was the best idea that I have ever had! I finally broke the hated 298 number after hanging there for 3 days and now I am officially 287. I know that doesn't seem like much but in this battle of the bulge we observe victories in small amounts and that is just fine by me.
I do think that I may be hitting this a little aggressive, 19lbs in 2 weeks, but I think that I need to keep this up as long as I am able. I will admit that for the first time I feel a little light headed when I stand up real fast. I think that I am going to up my calorie intake a little to help me feel a little more energized.
On a techie note, Kirsten has helped me set this thing up now so anyone can comment. I guess that there were thousands of people trying to comment on the totally killer radical awesomeness of this blog and they were having troubles. I don't know what I would do with out her!

Day 13 of 365
Well today I learned the parable of reaping what I sew. As a matter of introduction I have to begin with the facts and nothing but the facts. Saturday AND Sunday I fell off the wagon like a drunk Russian farmer racing beet wagons. I went out to dinner on Saturday and on Sunday I ate enough peanut butter cookies to feed all the babushkas watching the beet farmers. And Monday I felt like the south end of the north bound nag pulling the ........wait for it.......Beet Wagon. I worked out on Monday and today and I hope that I will out do any real damage that I caused. The interesting thing was how easy it was to give in. That is something that I need to think about. I don't want this to just be a fad diet and gain it all back in a year. I want this to rewire my head, something that my Father tried to do for 21 years, unsuccessfully I might add.

Day 10 of 365
Weight; 288.8
Measurements are: Net decrease of 2 inches in the waist, thigh, chest! Nothing is more motivating than to see the changes in the form of better measurements and smaller numbers on the scale.
I have officially broke the 280-something mark. But at this moment it seems like a very small victory due to my incredibly stupid dinner I just had. Thomas is having a Pizza Party and I did partake. Now I have an upset stomach and have an extra 700 calories to burn. Lesson learned. Its the straight and narrow for me from now on! I cannot go 18lbs in 10 days and let it go to pizza. Plus it made me feel sick so I am not going to fall for that again.

Day 9 of 365 That's It...My body is broke
Well I guess this ride is over. I went 24 hours with no weight loss so I throw in the towel. Seriously I was wondering when this blissful melting of fat was going to slow down. I have read that the first 20 are the easiest so I guess I can agree with that.
On a more somber note I did the stupidest thing.....I journeyed into the valley of death and I now fear the evil that is called the BLEACHERS. I ran 5 sets, one more than last time and I walked / ran a mile. My legs feel like under-cooked spaghetti and I am sure I will be incapable of movement tomorrow. If anyone knows a better remedy for sore legs than popping Advil like Skittles, please let me know asap.
I will end with a quote from Abe Lincoln "My body will stop being great when I stop eating good" or something like that. :-)

Day 8 of 365
Weight 292
14 lbs lost in 8 days!
I know this isn't going to last, but I sure am not going to argue with the results! I feel great both in my body and in my head. I know that 14 lbs is a long way from 100 lbs but the success that I have had is absolutely intoxicating and really give me a boost when I come home and need some strength that is not coming from my brain. I go stand on the scale and it is like an instant burst of energy and desire to go work out and sweat a few more lbs off. I think that I am becoming addicted to loosing weight? Is that possible? Do you think I will have to go on a diet of Ding-Dongs and Mt. Dew in a year as part of my 12 step program to stop loosing weight? All of these questions and more I look forward to addressing in the coming months!
I don't know if anyone who is reading this is struggling with weight gain or anything else that is keeping them from being healthy and happy, but if there is I just want to add my encouragement that if a 306 lb lazy beggar like me can change I believe that anyone can. If anyone ever wants to talk or discuss your own journey to great health and happiness please know that I owe the karma monkey and am always available!

Holy Guanno....Day 7 of 365
I guess some of you may know this but for those of you who don't I am going to reveal a weight loss revelation; a secret guarded by the likes of the Coca-cola corporation, Wonka and all the evil makers and minions of chocolate. IF YOU EAT LESS CALORIES THAN YOU BURN, YOU LOOSE WEIGHT!
I am amazed at how fast the flubber is coming off of me. I dont have much time to elaborate but it's sufficient to say that i now weigh 293! I know I cant expect it all to come as fast as the first few weeks but I am so glad it works this way. It really gives me confidence to see actual, real results this fast. I have been limiting my caloric intake to 1500 and have exercised every day except sunday and the day after the paralyzing bleacher incident that we do not speak of.
Thanks for all of the great comments, both on the blog and in person, it really helps! I promise we will keep this up until we have a Mick weighs 200 lbs party.

To kill a hummingbird!
Quick side note..... Kirsten is about to help me change this blog background to something a little more masculine than-- humming birds on a pink background! Wahoo!!!
Day 4 and 5 of 365
Weight: 295
Food: Went to a restaurant and ate a vegetarian meal...of my own choosing!
Well I have been on this journey for a whopping 5 days now and couldn't be happier with how it is going. I think with few exceptions i have kept my calorie count to 1500 per day and I only missed one day of exercise due to the unfortunate bleacher incident. My calf's are still so sore that when I walk it looks more a kin to a waddle. I found a great way to exercise yesterday; I worked in the yard shoveling and landscaping for nearly 5 hours. According to My Food Diary I burned over a thousand calories. I am not sure how accurate it is but i know that i sweat my butt off for 5 hours and was mucho glad when six o'clock rolled around and i had to go to Stake Conference.
An interesting thing happened on Friday, we went to the grocery store to get ready for the weekend and I found that finding food that sounded good AND fit with in my calorie regime was almost impossible. When I took the time to look and really calculate what impact the particular food would have on my body it was very discouraging. (Did you know that Ding-Dongs have 220 calories and 170 of then are from fat...who'd of thunk). Even things like certain fruits and breads that I have always considered healthy were so high in calories that I couldn't justify them in my new diet. I have started to judge food by the quality of the calories that they contain and how well they are going to keep me going. I know that my body is using every single calorie that i put in this sack of flubber I call my body and in order to do the exercise that I need and want I have to only put the good stuff in so I will last throughout the day.
Well, it looks like the days of 8lbs of weight loos in a single marathon night of urination are over, much to my dismay. I am excited to see that i have a total loss of 11lbs in 5 days and my goal of 4 lbs per week seems really obtainable. As my weight goes down I think that it will be easier to be more active with less of of a chance of a reoccurring bleacher incident.
I want to say thanks to all of you that are being so supportive and let you know that this wouldn't be possible with out you. I am doing this in the hope that God and physiology will lengthen my stay a little longer with my family and all of you and may be one day this will help someone else know that they can make this choice and change their lives as well.

Day 3 of 365
Weight 296
Food Going well!
I now know why you cant go run bleachers for 30 minuets at maximum speed. (slightly faster than a earthworm on a hot plate) The reason is the next day when you try to use you legs for even the most menial of tasks you find that there are just two unresponsive hunks of flesh that feel like they have been dipped in plutonium and lit on fire. No biggie, just an utter inability to motate in almost any form other than crawling. But boy did it feel great to stand at the top of the bleachers and know that i was literally running my arse off. I love the feeling of empowerment that this exercise is giving me!

Day 2 of 365
Weight = 296lbs
Wow.... I guess all you have to do to loose weight is decide you want to, then exercise for two days.....or you can take your doctors prescription for water retention and wiz like a Kentucky derby contender. Both work very well for loosing 10 lbs in 48 hours, and when you do them together you can never really prove which was really responsible.
I know that it is way early in this race to declare victory but I just finished running stairs at the local football arena and a feel like a new man. I know that soon that new man is going to run head first into a brick wall, but i feel like these days of feeling invincible will prepare my body, mind and soul for the hard days that are coming.
I spoke with my brother Zach and we are going to plan some sort of team race for next summer. I think that we need to have a wood family RAGNAR team that would be great!
As usual I am running late and must go, but I want to tell you all, (I am not sure who you all is?)that appreciate all the thoughts of encouragement and prayers and together we will succeed!

Day 1.1 of 365
I forgot to mention:
Weight 306
Exercise: 50 min of riding my bike at breakneck speeds UP hobble creek canyon. (I think a squirrel passed me, can u say granny gear) Regardless of the distance it is sufficient to say I peddled until I couldn't breath, then I kept that up for the next 49 min.
Food: Gonna be good, its day 1!

Day 1 of 365
I am starting this blog to create personal accountability and accountability to those that are near and dear to me. last night I weighed in at a whopping 306 lbs. the doctor said that some of that is water from my kidney, but most of it is cheeseburgers and milkshakes. My doctor also said that he highly recommends that I undergo weight loss surgery. Kirsten and I have been talking about all of the options and all of the consequences that accompany each.
I just have to say that I truly have an amazing wife, in the end she said that she sees pros and cons with both, she gave me her very humble opinion, and she said she loves me and supports whatever decision that I decide.
In the end I believe the right choice for me and my family at this time is to give a full and committed effort to doing mental surgery before I do any permanent physical surgery. (no that does not mean a lobotomy). In the words of my great brother Zach "why don't you spend a thousand dollars finding out whats wrong in your head that makes you eat like you do before you spend twenty thousand dollars hiding the effects" When he said that something resonated in me that I cannot deny. There is a reason that I am using food to comfort me when I am stressed or depressed and I need to train my body to deal with that in a more healthy way. If I do that I should be quite a bit smaller when I am done and I should be a fair bit more healthy, both mentally and physically.
I am choosing to share all of this with what ever poor soul decided to follow it in order to have some sort of accountability. I want to be accountable to someone other than my self. I want to publish the fact that this isn't some fad diet that I loose 20 lbs in a week and gain it all back the next. This is my record of the next year and the goal I have to exercise 6 times a week and eat 1500 calories plus what I exercise off. This I believe is the formula to loose 4 lbs a week, hence the name of the blog.
I will be posting my weight and exercise daily, and be posting what my calorie count was as much as possible. I will also be posting my personal thoughts and experiences along the way. And to those poor souls following this I would love any words of encouragement, thoughts or ideas you have that may help me on my quest. Please don't be shy or afraid of hurting my feelings. I need all the TRUTH I can handle in my life right now. With out the truth I will not be able to make the decisions that I need to accomplish the goal of 4 lbs a Week!
So with out further adieu, and with grammar and spelling mistakes spewing like a open fire hydrant on a hot summer day, I bid you welcome to 4 Lbs A Week
